Corey Brown teaches in Korea and was placed by Aclipse!

On living in Korea:

I have been living in Daejeon, South Korea for about 8 weeks now and I am loving it. The city has an excellent transportation system allowing me to go all over the city without a car with relative ease. Around my apartment building there are many familiar eating establishments which include: KFC, Burger King, 7-11, Starbucks, Coffee bean. Krispie Cream, and a few stops away there is even a Costco! The city is filled with other foreigners who are either studying abroad or working at different Hogwans. I have already met people from Canada, Britain, France, Australia, New Zealand, and Saudi Arabia.

On teaching:

I have 5 classes with a total of 60 different students. Three of my classes are extremely well behaved that consistently participate in class and are a true pleasure to teach. My other two classes have some difficulties but I am getting them more under control and trying to address their difficulties. I really love the late start each day which allows me time to sleep in and go to the gym before work. Also Chungdahm provides me with a Korean assistant who does all the interactions with my students' parents.

On weekends:

I have been going out to the club district in town called Timeworld. There I have met people from all over the world and have had some wild nights clubbing and bar hopping with new friends. Already we have gone on a trip to the Mountains and seen a Buddhist temple, and this weekend we are making a trip to Seoul. I highly recommend Applying through Aclipse and becoming a teacher at Chungdahm Learning!

Departure is coming up quickly! A few concerns and questions I have.

So I only have a couple of weeks left in the U.S. and I am really excited, but also a bit nervous. I am still currently working at my job here in Milwaukee, WI and I feel like I don't have time to get stuff done. I have an idea of what I want to pack, but I have barely started yet! There are places in Milwaukee I want to go to one last time before I leave and hoping I have time to do so. Does anyone have any great tips on packing because I could sure use them? I thought I would be good at…

The Great Packing Debate

Posted by Audrey Eagle on June 18, 2011 at 9:13pm 1 Comment

I remember when I was preparing to leave for Korea - I scoured the internet for blogs about what to bring. Most of them contradict each other, but out of everything, I did gather one truth that I think every pre-departure teacher should keep in mind:

Spending a lot of money upon arrival vs. having a heavy suitcase.

Which would you rather do (or, well, which doesn't sound *as bad* as the other)? One could show up to the airport with just a small duffel bag and…

Hi Andrea!   The dress code depends on your location. For my location, we can only wear jeans on Friday. Otherwise, all the girls wear dress pants or dresses. As for your shoes, don't plan on finding your size. I'm only a size 9 which…

I actually got really lucky and managed to volunteer assistant teach ESL at a university down the street to some Korean students. Outside of that I don't really have much experience except for some informal ESL teaching one-on-one in college.…
